About Santa Clarita
Santa Clarita, located in the north western corner of Los Angeles has a population of 228,673, and is the third most populous city in Los Angeles County, and 17th-largest in California. Located 30 miles northwest of downtown Los Angeles, the city is situated alongside the Santa Clara River. The areas first recorded settlement dates back to the Chumash people, who were displaced by the Tataviam at around 450 AD. When the Spanish arrived in Alta California, The Rancho San Francisco was established, which covered a large amount of the Santa Clarita Valley. Purchased by Henry Mayo Newhall in 1875, he established the towns of Saugus and Newhall. The Newhall Land and Farming Company was instrumental in the city’s development. In December 1987, the city of Santa Clarita was incorporated, encompassing the communities of Canyon Country, Newhall, Saugus, and Valencia. Santa Clarita borders the Golden State Freeway (I-5). The Antelope Valley Freeway (CA-14) runs northeast–southwest forming part of the city’s irregular east boundary. The two freeways meet at Newhall Pass, near the city’s southernmost point.
Santa Clarita is home to the renowned art academy, California Institute of the Arts, a Christian liberal arts university called The Master’s University, and College of the Canyons. Princess Cruises, Sunkist, Remo, and the Newhall Land and Farming Company are among the companies that are headquartered in Santa Clarita. The communities of Castaic and Stevenson Ranch, are located to the north west of the Santa Clarita city limits. Santa Clarita elementary K-6 level youth are served by four elementary school districts.
First is The Castaic Union School District, which serves Castaic, Val Verde, and a small residential portion of northwestern Valencia. The Newhall School District is the second and serves Newhall, Stevenson Ranch, and southern Valencia. The Saugus Union School District serves k-6 youth in Saugus, northern through central Valencia, and western portion of Canyon Country. Last is the Sulphur Springs School District which serves the k-6 youth throughout most of Canyon Country.
These four school districts administer a total of 37 elementary schools.
Junior high and high schools
Excluding Castaic Middle School, all of the junior high and high school facilities (grades 7-12) serving Santa Clarita are part of the William S. Hart Union High School District.
The district manages seven high schools (Canyon, Castaic, Golden Valley, Hart, Saugus, Valencia, & West Ranch) as well as six junior high schools (Arroyo Seco, La Mesa, Placerita, Rancho Pico, Rio Norte, and Sierra Vista). U.S. News & World Report ranked William S. Hart School District high schools in the top 12% in the nationwide.

California Institute of the Arts in Valencia (CalArts)
CalArts is a private art university that was founded in 1961 by Walt Disney, Roy O. Disney, and Nelbert Chouinard. CalArts was the first college created specifically for students of the visual and performing arts. It was created by the merger of Chouinard Art Institute and the Los Angeles Conservatory of Music and relocated to its current Valencia campus in 1971. CalArts has produced many notables, including Tim Burton, Brad Bird, John Lasseter, Julia Holter, Marina Rosenfeld, Andrew Stanton, & Carl Stone just to name a few.
The Master’s University is a non-denominational, Christian liberal arts university located in Newhall. It was founded as Los Angeles Baptist College and Seminary in 1927. In 1961 it moved to Santa Clarita and later adopted the identity of The Master’s College and then The Master’s University.
College of the Canyons is a public community college that has two campuses. The main campus is located in Valencia, and the secondary Canyon Country campus is located on Sierra Highway between Skyline Ranch Road and Sand Canyon Road. The 2 campuses make up the Santa Clarita Community College District of California Community Colleges.
Charter College has a campus at the intersection of Soledad Canyon Road and Hidaway Avenue in Canyon Country.[156]

Santa Clarita is known for its movie ranches. The Santa Clarita Valley contains multiple movie ranches that include Blue Cloud Movie Ranch, Golden Oak Ranch, Melody Ranch, Rancho Deluxe, Sable Ranch, and Veluzat Movie Ranch.
All of the mentioned movie ranches lie within the studio zone, the area within a 30-mile radius of the intersection of Beverly and La Cienega Boulevards in West Los Angeles.
